Good coffee places in Berlin
My definition of “good coffee places” includes, although, by no mean limited by, offering a “not too fruity” (sometimes “chocolaty”) Filter coffee or a decent Americano.
I’m fully aware, that the list of coffee shop names and their addresses, even split by districts, is a terrible way to represent this type data. Call it an MVP.
Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
19grams, Schlesische Str. 38. Closed after 15:00 on weekdays.
Prenzlauer Berg / Mitte
Bonanza, Oderberger Str. 35. Very popular on weekends.
Cafelix, Winsstraße 47. A very cozy and homey place, where the owner (?) calls everybody “darling” :)
Coffee Circle, Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 19. Laptop-friendly and surprisingly quiet.
Firstcrack Coffee, Raumerstraße 40, 10437. A type of coffee place, that roasts the coffee beans themselves. The barista will likely ask you to choose out of the variety of their coffee beans if you’re up to a filter. They make a delicious citrus cold brew tonic.
Five Elephant, Kollwitzstraße 98. A tiny one and very popular.
KAFFEE.BAR, Stargarder Str. 55a. During the lockdown it was fairly good for the “takeaways”. Can be completely packed on the weekends.
MilchHallee, Auguststraße 50. Can be packed on a sunny day. Their Filter is so-so nowadays, but it was nice during the pandemic’s lockdown.
Oslo Kaffebar, Eichendorffstraße 13. “The best coffee bar in Mitte”, according to some.
SPRO, Schönhauser Allee 50A. Fine filter coffee and scones bakery.
St. Oberholz, Schönhauser Allee 4. Another laptop-friendly and fairly popular on weekdays. Closed on the weekends.
Zacharias, Kollwitzstraße 44. The fresh one (opened in late 2021). Besides good Filter and Americano from Circle Coffee Roastery, I love their “citrus croissants”.
Other
The Barn (all of them). Only as an exception: I’m really not into their black coffee. But they make “coffee with grapefruit juice” (shakerato), have gorgeous peanut butter cookies, and I like some of the coffee beans they sell.
